Farm Museum

Today is Veteran’s day, which means Grandpa has the day off of work. So we dragged him off to the Loudon Heritage Farm Museum.

We started off riding the tractors. Matthew was a little disappointed that they weren’t real.

Next we headed in to milk the “cow” and collect eggs from the “chickens.” I couldn’t get a picture of David because he was completely terrified of the cow.

The exhibit section had a wheat grinder. If you ask for a bag of seed you can go grind it. So we did.

In case you were wondering, 3 year-olds are not very reliable grinders.

Next we played in the barn yard puppet theater.

The general store was also a hit. It is an actual store building the county bought, moved, and set up in the museum. Some of the items were still inside after it was closed in the 1940’s.

We had a great time, but Dad and I agreed that it is a little sad to think that farming in Northern VA has been reduced to a museum exhibit.
