Snow! Again!

We got more snow this weekend. I think we have had more snow this winter than the entire last decade.

It started Saturday morning and snowed pretty much all day. I took Matthew out once before dinner, and Daddy took David out once after dinner, to push the snow around with the shovel. It was really cold and windy, though, so no one wanted to stay out long.

We got out again today to play. Matthew made a mini-snow man, but knocked it down before I could get a picture. David entertained himself with a snow shovel.

Matthew lasted about 10 min. and then wanted to head in. He still has a fever, so he really doesn’t have the energy to play.

He was much happier with some hot chocolate.

Steven had to drag David in when he hands started to turn pink from the cold. Otherwise, David might still be out there.

David’s New Room

Over the holidays, we got David’s new room painted. Thankfully, I didn’t have to do it all by myself.

Matthew had a pretty good idea what to do,

but David needed some pointers.

Then the boys helped Daddy put the crib together.

We got all the furniture put in and now it’s all set up and ready for the next 16 years.

We gave David a week to get used to the idea of a new room, and then we kept him company during nap and bed time for the first day. He has been happy as can be ever since.

The room looks great, which is a LOT more than I can say for the rest of the house.

Three Sick Boys

What is worse than having two sick boys at home?

Jumping Jack’s Birthday Party

Matthew was invited to a birthday party at Jumping Jack Sports. We haven’t been since last spring. He was delighted to run around the place, jump in the moon bounce, and run through the blow-up obstacle course.

Since it was a birthday party, they got to play games, too. Watching a bunch of 3 and 4 year olds play organized games is an absolute riot.

Red light, green light went pretty well, if you don’t count the fact that they always kept going after the red light was flashed.

Here they are listening to the directions.

The next game was an obstacle course. The kids were lined up in two teams. They were given directions for each step of the course (run here, go under this, over that, run around the cones, go back.) Then the coaches yelled go! And EVERY SINGLE KID started running.

I took pity on the coaches and went to help. Matthew had a good time.

Then, mercifully, they let the kids play some more. Matthew decided to climb the rope ladder.

Before heading in for pizza and cake, the kids took a group shot.

The pizza and cake were delicious. Look how cool the cake was!

It was a great party. Matthew fell asleep in the car on the way home.

Train Expo

There was a model train expo nearby this weekend. Since Mommy was crafting at Aunt Susie’s house (more on that later), Daddy and Grandpa took the boys.

It was a big hit. In addition to tables full of model trains, there was a make-your-own-train-track area.

Matthew had so many cars on his track the trains couldn’t move. He had to sacrifice a few.

David delighted in crashing his trains together.

Air & Space Museum

Daddy was away this week, but he got back early on Friday. (Yippee!!!) Since parking is free after 4 pm, we headed over to the Air and Space Museum at Dulles to burn off some rainy day energy.

Matthew has a new favorite, the SR 71 Blackbird. He took a toy version for sharing last week. He was fascinated by the real thing. David walked around pointing and yelling, “Mommy! Airplane! I see it!”

Matthew and Daddy tried one of the simulators, too. They did a 3D moon walk, which Matthew enjoyed. Or, he did until the end when the “landing” got loud and bumpy. Still, it was an improvement over the ride he took with Grandpa last year.

We ran around for an hour and half and then headed home for dinner. Quick, but effective. And fun.

Purple Planes

Matthew went to the dentist on Thursday. He loves the dentist. Loves. Him.

Anyway, he was very good and his teeth are very clean (pardon me while I pat myself on the back), and so he got to get a treat from the treat drawer.

He picked out a purple plane.

Two of his favorite things! Planes, and purple! And he is such a good big brother that he made sure he got one for David, too.

Matthew was pretty good at making his fly. David mostly threw his straight up into the air.

You can see why Matthew thinks the dentist rocks.

Reading with Grandpa

After bath time on Monday night, the boys snuggled up with Grandpa for a reading of their favorite book, “Cars and Trucks and Things That Go.”

Many happy hours are spent searching for Gold Bug.

Baby Shower

Our friend is having a girl – after having three boys. God bless her. Anyway, we decided to have a surprise shower for her. The idea was to give her a bunch of pink girly clothes none of us get to buy because we all have boys, too.

As I was hanging the clothes line, Matthew decided he wanted to help decorate.

Nothing says, “Welcome Baby Girl!” quite like a pair of blue Lightning McQueen underpants.

I also made cupcakes with pink and white roses on top.

We had balloons and a banner, and lots of good food.

Then we all stood around giggling like 12-year-old girls waiting for Elizabeth T. to show up. We were huddled near the door so we could yell, “Surprise!” When she came in.

She was surprised (we are so sneaky), and touched, and got some super cute outfits.

And we had a lovely afternoon talking and laughing and eating and drinking without a single interruption by a child.

New Oven

Our new oven came last week. It’s so beautiful and shiny!

The boys were very excited.

VERY excited.

For about 3 minutes.
