First Trip to the Nutcracker

Matthew got to see his first performance of the Nutcracker Ballet this weekend. Meghan’s dance school put on a wonderful performance. She was one of the mice in Act I. To get ready for the show, we read a book about the ballet and listened to the music.

We had seats in the third row, so we got to see all the action up close.

We were very excited before the show began,

but we were delighted to see our favorite mouse at intermission. Since she wasn’t in Act II, we got to sit with her.

Matthew did very well during the show. He asked a few times when it would be over, because he wanted to eat snack in the hallway. Otherwise, he was very interested in the show.

On the way home, Grandma asked him what role he might like to play one day. “The Rat King!” he replied. Which makes perfect sense. The Rat King gets to cause all kinds of trouble, and carry a sword. That’s right up Matthew’s ally.

You are already participating in the tradition of dance-loving-mamas-of-sons, who have to attend the performances of nieces and neighbors to get their ballet-fix. Wish I were there to go with you. My own neighbor-Nutcracker is next weekend.

You were there in spirit each time the dancers tap-tap-tapped their way across the stage on their toe boxes. “Suzanne would like the sound of though,” I’d think to myself.
